WHO AM I?
My name is Jadon Schwahn and on this website you will see a collection of art created by me and some created with the creative help of my friend Tabor Ulrichs. Both of us have grown up in Bozeman participating in all the typical mountain shenanigans: snow boarding, skiing, back packing, hiking, fishing and skate boarding. Our artistry together took shape in high school out of boredom in class that lead to incessant doodling. It has since evolved through time, energy, passion and divergent paths that have lead us to things we think are cool. We hope others do as well.
WHAT’S UP WITH THIS ART?
The individual style that I have developed is sporadic and clean. The process Im drawn to the most would be a cause and effect method. I create depth and space in a piece by reacting to what is laid down through out. I value using a restorative process, making old and unusual objects new. I also enjoy creating a large interesting composition that is interweaved with smaller objects and drawings that can be discovered at a closer look.
The collaborative style that we have developed is unique and seamless. We work on pieces together by trading our utensils frequently throughout. One might confuse our time in the studio with two people playing musical chairs as we switch seats and alternate drawing and painting on the same surface. Both of us enjoy getting lost in the drawing process just as a musician gets lost in his jam. We find drawing to be quite meditative and rarely know what our end result will be upon starting a piece. Perhaps our brains intuitively decide our pieces for us, and this is what we dig the most about being artists!
WHY ART?
In this digitally distracted, screen dependent world, it can be hard to focus on anything other than the slender blue screen in our hands. When was the last time you waited in line and observed your surroundings or made human connection rather than staring at your phone? This can be uncomfortable for many people, but it is our intention to draw your eyes from the phone technto the walls, people and art that surrounds you. We’ve chosen to create many of our pieces in such a way that they catch the eye from a distance and draw the viewer in to observe more deeply. Perhaps our work will motivate you away from the screen and enable you to appreciate the nuances of art that surrounds you no matter where you are.
